The Foundation

The Captain Matt LeTourneau Memorial Foundation has been created to carry on Matt’s name.

The Foundation received Public Charity Status approval on January 28, 2019, effective May 29, 2018.  At the time of our organization’s founding, our goal was to focus on ways to carry on Matt’s passion for education and training,

Our education mission is officially in place to support those who are pursuing a Fire Science or Emergency Response/Management degree.  In October of 2020, due to the generosity of those donating in Matt’s memory, we established our first scholarship and endowment fund.  The details of that gift to Delaware Community College can be found under the “News” tab.

Currently we are in discussions to establish a second educational endowment to fund a scholarship with another local college in Matt’s memory.  We hope to announce that news in the coming months, and have it commence in January 2022.

We are so grateful for the support from all those assisting us in keeping Matt’s passion for advancing knowledge and dedication to saving lives.  Those who knew him best remember he took any opportunity available to train – supporting newer firefighters and assisting those who needed extra support in learning. Matt was a certified State and County instructor and a mentor to so many.

The Board is composed of family members, friends and representatives of the firefighting community.
